FILIPINO-AMERICAN ASSOCIATION of CARSON CITY

14 th ANNUAL VALENTINE'S PARTY

The 14th Annual Valentine Party was held at the Carson City Nugget Casino on the 9th of February. George Alvendia who was the nights emcee started the party off by welcoming everyone. He introduced Marissa Morse who sang the Star Spangled Banner with Rozalin Mazo following up singing the Philippine National Anthem. Afterwards, Oscar Canonigo provided the invocation before dinner was served.

Dinner was served at 7:00. During dinner and through out the night, music for listening and dancing was presented by Marissa Morse. Some of the singers during the night included George Alvendia, Zena Weeks, and Rico. After dinner, Jaimarie Dagdagan the associations President spoke to the association for a few minutes.

As guests were finishing their dinners, we were entertained with a cultural performance by the Puso Group from Reno. This is a group of students promoting the Filipino culture with dance and history. The performers included Andrew Abuda, Jo Tabbada, Tyron Teylan and Eugene Torres.

As guest danced and socialized, some were selected to play two games. The first game was called "Eat your loved ones Marshmallows" where the male participant had to eat a chain of marshmallows around the female participants' neck without using their hands. This turned out to be a very fast game; some of the participants hadn't gotten enough to eat.

The next game could be called "Dancing with Apples". The object of the game was to keep an apple between couples while dancing to slow and fast songs without touching the apple. Once it fell, the couple was out of the game. Couples entertained us with their dancing skills trying to keep the apples from falling, which took some time before a winner was declared.

The association would like to thank the following people and businesses for their donations for the raffle drawings: Vee Watkins for the donation of a mini refrigerator and the Kabayan Multi-Mart who provided a bag of rice.
